Japanese fabric. Okinawa Shisa katagami bourdeaux background.
(€19.00 por metro)
Japanese cotton fabric with Okinawan guardian lion (Shisa) silhouette motifs in black on bourdeaux red.
Japanese 100% cotton fabric with printed motifs typical of the island of Okinawa. Bordeaux red background.
The Shīsā are guardian lion-dogs that stand at the gates of temples and on the roofs of houses to protect their inhabitants. When they stand at temple gates, you will see one with its mouth open and the other with its mouth closed.
In Okinawa, a special paper, Shibugami (washi paper treated with fermented persimmon juice), is used to cut out the silhouettes of the motifs to be printed and coloured by hand, in Okinawa's own technique known as ‘Bingata’.
The motifs on this fabric are reminiscent of those cut out on those cut-out paper stencils, or katagami. In addition to the Shīsā, we find typical Okinawan motifs: tropical flowers, pineapples, clouds, in black, white and beige.
A very versatile cotton fabric. You’ll be able to use it in your clothes, patchwork projects, or small accessories, decoration, etc.
Combine it with the rest of the colors and patterns available for our "bingata" fabrics!
