Japanese 100% cotton Rustic feel fabric "Cho ju giga" with sand background.
This is a really special fabric.
Japanese 100% cotton fabric, with motifs taken from the "Choju-giga".
Choju-giga is a masterpiece from the Heian period (12th-13th century). Its name, which literally translates as "animal caricatures", gives us a foretaste of its content: a satirical narration of its time, in which the characters are replaced by anthropomorphic animals.
Choju-giga, drawn on several rolls of washi paper, has been called "The First Manga in History", in terms of its character as a visual caricature narrative.
The motif of this cloth is printed in very dark blue, with red details, on a sand-coloured cloth, reminiscent of those traditionally dyed with kakishibu.
Flat weave made with slightly thick yarns, resulting in a slightly open weave, with some transparency and good drape. This arrangement and thickness of the yarns conveys a rustic, traditional weave feel, reminiscent of those woven by hand.
