Omamori are amulets found in Japanese shrines and temples. Especially linked to the tradition of Shintoism, omamori are small brocade cloth bags, which contain an invocation or prayer inside, and have been blessed by a monk.

There are protective omamori for all kinds of purposes: love, health, happiness, success at work or at school..... Tradition says that each omamori can only be used by one person, and that they should never be thrown away, but taken to a temple, to be burned by the monks at the end of the year, in a ritual of thanksgiving to the kami (gods). Nor should the omamori be opened, as it will lose its protective power.
