The plum tree flower competes against the cherry blossoms (sakura) as one of the representation of beauty that is used historically in Japanese paintings. The flowers of ume (梅) plum or Japanese apricot with its 5 rounded petals are represented in this chiyogami paper in white, black and silvery gray colors over an elegant dark blue.
The washi paper made of long fibers is very flexible and resistant. It is machine made with kozo and sulfite fibers. Silk-screen printed later by hand in so many steps with colors.
Due to the production techniques, the full planks of washi chiyogami paper (of 97cmx65cm) have a frame of approximately 1cm in white. The specified dimensions refer to the printed part.
